Wishlist Wednesday: Back-to-School Book Bags (Guest Post by Grace)

About a month ago, I finally decide to get my mid-20’s crap together and get serious about finishing up my Bachelor’s.  Yesterday was my first day of class, and although I’m doing my classes purely online so that I can work full time, it’s got me in a somewhat “back to school” mood (that plus I can’t wait for Fall…cooler weather now please!).  Therefore this week’s “Wishlist Wednesday” is focused on the school workhorse… the book bag: backpack, messenger bag, tote…it’s the thing you use to schlep your tons of stuff to and from class every day!

1)  Jansport “Superbreak” Backpack: $36

Every person I know had a Jansport backpack at one time or another.  This is THE backpack; you can throw it around, carry all your crap in it, and with the exception of maybe running it through a shredder, it just doesn’t die.  I still have mine from high school, and it’s still in one piece.  It’s available in a plethora of colors and prints to suit everybody’s tastes (I won’t lie, I’m actually quite envious of all the patterns available these days).

2) Herschel & Co “Little America” Backpack: $90-$170

Herschel & Co’s “Little America” is a backpack I’ve seen the last two years that is growing in popularity.  … READ FULL POST

Wishlist Wednesday: Cooler West Coast Cities (Guest Post by Grace)

With the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in full swing at the moment, all I’ve heard about lately is shopping and sales.  To break up the topic monotony, and to save myself from the temptation of spending more money, I’m switching things up this Wednesday by doing another travel post (I’ve been itching to go places lately).  It’s quite warm in most of the U.S. by now, and we’re having a muggy stretch here in Southern California, so all I can think about is going somewhere that isn’t too hot…

1) San Francisco, CA: average summer temps in San Francisco are only about 70-75 degrees, and there’s lots to explore, from the Golden Gate Bridge to Alcatraz,  or the famous street cars and Painted Ladies.

2) Portland, OR: summer temps in Portland don’t seem to get too much warmer than San Francisco, averaging between 75-80 degrees most days.  Portland has a little something for everyone: exploring Crater Lake, the Oregon coast or Multnomah Falls; Powell’s Books, the largest independent bookstore in the world; lots of great restaurants and independent coffee shops to try; and SHOPPING because no sales tax!! (okay, so there’s one small blurb about shopping…sue me)

3) Alaska: I feel like most people tend to visit Alaska as a cruise destination, so I figured I’d just pop it on here as a whole.  … READ FULL POST

Wishlist Wednesday: Summer Sunglasses Under $150 (Guest Post by Grace)

It’s been extra sunny around SoCal, so I figured it was high time I dusted off my sunglasses and pulled them out of the cold storage that is my closet (I wear glasses, so sometimes I get too lazy to put on contacts).  Since it’s summer, I figured I should do a sunglasses post for those readers who live in areas that might not warrant having a pair of sunnies on hand all year round.  For those readers who DO live in year round sunshine, another pair of sunglasses never hurt anyone! See below for my picks, almost all of which I either own or have personally tried on.  Best of all, every pair is under $150! (Who said nice things had to cost an arm and a leg?)

For a classic pair, try these Ray Ban “New Small Wayfarers”  ($130) on for size!  Gives a great casual summer vibe, and you can’t go wrong with basic black._6319402For a fun, colored twist on classic wayfarers, I am in love these TOMS “Dodoma” Vintage Keyhole Sunglasses  ($139) in seaglass green! Summer always makes me feel extra colorful, and the teal color of the frames is gorgeous.… READ FULL POST

Wishlist Wednesday: No Pants Summer (Guest Post by Grace)

All my life, I have disliked hot weather, which is somewhat of a cruel joke, since I currently live in Southern California.  Every summer, my friends can hear me moaning about how hot it is (anything above 85 is “WAY too hot” for me on most days).  At the beginning of the summer, I made it my goal to try and wear pants to work as few times as possible in an effort to stay cool, so my dresses and skirts are on full rotation at the moment.  My office dress code is business casual, but I feel like these can all be styled to fit all but the most conservative offices.  Also, I try to pick clothes that can pull both work AND weekend duty, since I neither have the space nor the money to maintain two separate wardrobes.

Below are a few of my picks, and the best part is, they’re all currently $70 or under!

My Skirt Picks:
1) LOFT Frond Pencil Skirt: $54.99 (plus an extra 60% off)

2) LOFT Stenciled Leaf Stroll Skirt: $59.50

3) LOFT Globetrotter Stroll Skirt: $59.50

4) Painted Threads Lace Midi Skirt: $36

My Dress Picks:
1) LOFT Bold Stripe Shirred Dress: $69.50

2) Caslon Embroidered Yoke Sleeveless Dress: currently on sale for $35.40!… READ FULL POST

Wishlist Wednesday: Beautiful Beaches (Guest Post by Grace)

While we were texting, Lisa gleefully informed me that today was the first day of her summer break.  While I am definitely happy that she gets a well-deserved rest, there is a petulant little girl in me that is pouting because those of us with 9-5 jobs don’t get a 3 month vacation.  Hence, this week’s “Wishlist Wednesday” is a mental vacation post (because who doesn’t love a trip to the beach?!).  The beach has always been my relaxing refuge, and listening to the waves is guaranteed to make me feel better.  So read on for a few beaches I’d love to escape to!

1) Cannon Beach, OR

Even though I’ve only been here once, this beach is one of the first that pops in my head when I think of relaxing beaches.  A friend and I went on Memorial Day a few years ago, and perhaps we got there at the perfect time because the beach was almost deserted, the sun was setting beautifully on the Pacific (I’m quite partial to the colors of a Northwest sunset), and it was absolutely serene.  I hope to go back again soon, and hopefully enjoy a few hours of blissful tranquility.… READ FULL POST

Wishlist Wednesday: Home Edition (Guest Post by Grace)

Since Lisa is in the process of moving into her new apartment, I figured it would be somewhat fitting to do a home decor themed post.  Maybe it’s because I’m transitioning into my mid-20s, but I’ve been noticing more and more that the things that catch my eye in store windows happen to be decor related, and I’ll find myself thinking how nice something would look in my future home.  However, because I currently don’t have a need to be decorating and apartment, today’s post should also be subtitled “Things I Would Buy for My Place If I Didn’t Have to Think About Money.” So read on for a quick few items I’ve come across that I’d love to decorate with!
I came across this chair while at Restoration Hardware with a friend a few weeks ago, and it was SO comfortable!  Even if I can’t realistically afford this specific one, a slightly more affordable option will be definitely a must in my future home for curling up with a cup of tea and a good book.

Since I started with the chair, I have to have a nice snuggly throw blanket to go with it.  How else am I supposed to ward off the chill as I sit engrossed in my latest book?!  … READ FULL POST

Wishlist Wednesday: Scentsical Smells (Guest Post by Grace)

I’m a firm believer that smell is one of the most powerful senses we have.  A smell has the ability to transport me anywhere, from a beloved childhood memory, to solidifying the image of a “happy place” when I’m stressed and need a mental break.  Lately, I find myself in such a scent-y mood.  Maybe it’s because it’s getting warmer, and everywhere I go I smell amazing things,  like the salt in the air at the beach, or the perfume of flowers as I walk past a garden.

The fragrance a person chooses to wear is extremely subjective, since not only do people have preferences for different scents, but also because perfumes react differently to each person’s body chemistry.  A perfume that might smell ah-mazing on person A, might smell only so-so or even not so great on person B.  With that said, I’ll share a few of my personal go-to’s and newly discovered scents with you all below.

Versace ‘Bright Crystal’ Eau de Toilette is my usual go-to for daytime perfume.  I feel like it’s a floral scent that still manages to be fresh, unlike some florals that are very potent and seem to just engulf you with a single scent.  … READ FULL POST

Wishlist Wednesday: Food Deliciousness in Seattle (Guest Post by Grace)

628x471Photo: Seattle Magazine for Restaurant Zoë

Full disclosure: I am currently on pre-vacation mode, so pretty much everything going through my brain at the moment is vacation-related.  Since Lisa has graciously told me that my wishlists can be about anything on my mind, today’s post is all about the food I cannot wait to sink my teeth into.

Definitely at the top of the list: doughnuts.  I haven’t eaten a good doughnut in almost 2 years, since I got addicted to Top Pot Doughnuts in Seattle, and this is one of the things I haven’t been able to stop thinking about for the last 2 weeks as my impending vacation got closer.  I’m a classic kind of gal, so their Old Fashioned ones are my favorite, though their others are good too!  They’re made fresh throughout the day, and the OF’s are juuuust crunchy enough on the outside, and super moist on the inside, with a little bit of a glaze on top.  I already know I’m waking up on Friday morning, and making a beeline for my closest Top Pot to satisfy my slightly ridiculous craving.

I’m usually more of a savory kind of girl, so surprisingly, the next item on my list is also a sweet: Molly Moon’s Homemade Ice Cream Shop.  … READ FULL POST

Wishlist Wednesday: Beauty Prep (Guest Post by Grace)

This beautiful lady here (on the left) has been my better half since our school trip to Washington, D.C. back in 8th grade! Grace is a Southern Californian through and through and we definitely complement each other well. Within our friendship, she is the more quiet and reserved one, where I typically wear my emotions on my sleeve. Grace is also methodical in her thinking, while I normally just dive into new adventures with both feet. However, we have a lot of common interests and passions that binds us together. It is actually the norm for us to own the same articles of clothing and beauty products because we have similar tastes and would not hesitate to recommend the other person to purchase something IMMEDIATELY because we enjoyed it so thoroughly ourselves. I am so thrilled that she has agreed to be our weekly guest blogger for the new column, “Wishful Wednesday!”

Ah, Wednesday.  Middle of the week.  Hump day.  Whatever you want to call it, I always find myself feeling a little bit sluggish when Wednesday rolls around, especially during a hectic week when I have lots to do.  Enter  Wishlist Wednesday, where I’ll give a peek into things I’m looking forward to buying or trying.  … READ FULL POST
